On January sixth, the Union Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call in the Linville community regarding a trespassing complaint. A resident had contacted authorities about their neighbor allegedly trespassing on their property.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Erin Elizabeth Sutton swimming nude in a pond on the caller's property. According to the Union Parish Sheriff's Office, Sutton initially refused to get out of the pond and would not speak to deputies. When questioned about her behavior, Sutton told authorities she was trying to be a mermaid.
Officials report that Sutton eventually exited the pond, and Emergency Medical Services was called to evaluate her condition. However, the situation escalated when deputies asked Sutton to step inside a residence. According to the sheriff's office, Sutton suddenly charged toward a deputy at that point.
The Union Parish Sheriff's Office states that Sutton refused to comply with officers' commands during the confrontation. Deputies deployed a taser in an attempt to subdue her, but officials report the device had no effect on Sutton.
Following the incident, Sutton was taken into custody and faces multiple charges. She was booked on three counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, two counts of public intimidation, two counts of battery of a police officer, one count of disturbing the peace slash drunkenness, and one count of criminal trespassing.
Sutton's bond was set at sixty-two thousand dollars following her arrest in Union Parish. The charges stem from her alleged actions during the confrontation with law enforcement officers who had responded to the original trespassing complaint from the property owner.
