On April 7, 2026, deputies in Martin County, Florida, arrested Roberta Walker, a 51-year-old woman, after she allegedly broke into two homes in the Hobe Sound area. According to the sheriff's office, Walker entered the first house while the homeowner was still inside. The homeowner struggled with Walker as she attempted to take a dog crate with the homeowner's dog still inside.
The incident began when Walker tried to break into a home on Indian Street near Dixie Highway. Walker spent roughly 30 minutes chipping away at an impact glass window with a rock and a little piece of metal before crawling through the bedroom window. The homeowner reported that Walker tried to steal a 90-pound German shepherd that was in a crate.
The sheriff's office described Walker's actions as "bizarre" and stated that she has an extensive criminal history. "This is going to be, it's one of these things that goes in the category of you can't make this stuff up," said a sheriff's deputy.
Walker was taken into custody without bail. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are reviewing security footage and gathering evidence.
