Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-eight-year-old Louisiana middle school teacher who was recently named Teacher of the Year now faces multiple charges related to alleged inappropriate conduct with juveniles. Here's what may have happened.
Christie Elizabeth Dunbar Oster, an eighth-grade math teacher at Broussard Middle School in Lafayette, Louisiana, was first arrested by the Lafayette Police Department last week on charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with juveniles. Oster had been celebrated just months earlier when she was named the school's two thousand twenty-five to two thousand twenty-six Teacher of the Year in September. The school had posted on Facebook stating "Congratulations to our two thousand twenty-five to two thousand twenty-six BMS Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Christie Oster," though that post has since been deleted.
Following her initial arrest, Oster posted a thirty thousand dollar bond and was released from custody. However, her legal troubles continued when the Broussard Police Department learned of an incident involving Oster and a victim that occurred within the Broussard city limits. Officials stated that "the crime happened in Broussard, but not at the school, police say."
After discovering this additional incident, Broussard police issued another warrant for Oster's arrest on similar charges. Oster subsequently turned herself in to authorities on the second indecent behavior warrant. She is currently being held on a fifty thousand dollar bond.
According to reports, Oster allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a former student. A Lafayette Parish School System spokesperson confirmed that Oster has been placed on administrative leave. On January fifth, a stay-away order was filed against Oster.
School officials addressed the situation, with one stating "Adults do things that are wrong, stupid, sickening, etc. those things have NO reflection on their peers or higher ups, those are choices made and hidden by one Individual" and "The actions of one single adult has NO reflection on an entire system."
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
