Welcome to Arrest Stories.
Alberto Vázquez Matos, a 51-year-old superintendent of Middletown Public Schools, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Brandon, Florida. Here's what may have happened: According to police reports, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office pulled over Matos just before 11:30 p.m. due to his erratic behavior while driving in the middle of two lanes. When questioned by authorities, he claimed not to have taken any medication or consumed any drinks, but refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Police reports indicate that Matos asked to make a phone call to his brother-in-law, who allegedly is a police officer, before being arrested. He did surrender his Florida license at the time of arrest. Matos was later charged with DUI and possession of more than one driver's license.
The superintendent's actions have sparked concern among officials, with one stating, "People are looking up to a superintendent to be an example for everybody else who are under him." However, another official declined to comment on individual personnel matters.
On July 29, Matos was arrested and subsequently placed on administrative leave. He later pleaded not guilty at a courthouse in Tampa, Florida on August 5.
It is important to note that the charges have been filed against Alberto Vázquez Matos, but he has not been convicted of any crime. The public should be aware that the official narrative may change as more information becomes available.
