Welcome to Arrest Stories. A fifty-eight-year-old Oxford man was arrested after a hidden camera was discovered in a Lafayette County short-term rental property bathroom. Here's what may have happened.
On December nineteenth, twenty twenty-five, deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office received a report about a hidden camera located in a short-term rental property. The camera was discovered by the person renting the house, who found the recording device concealed inside a multiple-outlet plug in the bathroom.
The hidden camera was sophisticated in its design, with an SD card holder located on the back of the outlet. The SD card stored video footage from the device. After the discovery, deputies conducted an investigation on the scene to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the placement of the camera.
During the investigation, Charles Thomas Collier was asked to speak with investigators about the incident. The fifty-eight-year-old was subsequently arrested on December nineteenth in connection with placing the hidden camera in the rental property.
Following his arrest, Collier appeared before a Justice Court Judge on Saturday, December twentieth, twenty twenty-five. During the court appearance, bond was set at seventy-five thousand dollars for the charges related to the hidden camera incident.
The case highlights concerns about privacy violations in short-term rental properties, where guests expect privacy during their stays. The discovery of the recording device in the bathroom represents a serious breach of that privacy expectation.
Law enforcement officials have not released additional details about the investigation or whether other properties may have been involved. The case remains under investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office as they work to determine the full scope of the alleged criminal activity.
