According to officials, Cooper used another nurse's credentials to gain employment, which allowed her to administer drugs to patients and participate in medical procedures without proper training or licensure.
According to a statement from the hospital, "University Medical Center was recently alerted that an individual falsified her identity and used another nurse's credentials to gain employment. She was immediately removed from duty, and we began an investigation with regulatory and law-enforcement partners." The hospital did not specify how long Cooper worked at the facility before being discovered.
The investigation found that Cooper had previously worked at Lafon Nursing Facility in New Orleans East, starting on February 4, but left her position on March 4. She later started working as a charge nurse for the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office in August 2024, but left that job on October 17 of the same year.
Cooper was arrested and appeared in court Friday, where a bond was set at $10,000. The exact details of Cooper's alleged actions are still unclear, but authorities say they will continue to investigate and gather evidence to determine the full extent of her involvement.
