Welcome to Arrest Stories.
A 26-year-old mother, Natalia Munoz-Paulino, has been arrested in connection with the death of her 9-month-old infant who ingested cocaine, methamphetamine, eggshells, and feathers, leading to a fatal overdose.
Here's what may have happened. According to reports, on July 2, 2024, officers were sent to a hospital in Southwest Miami-Dade after the mother reported that her baby was unresponsive. The infant was pronounced dead at 10:39 p.m. at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. An autopsy later revealed lethal levels of cocaine and methamphetamine in the infant's system.
The investigation revealed that the apartment where the child lived with their mother was disheveled, unkempt, and dirty, with clothing, old food, trash, and used hygienic products scattered on the floor. The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was child neglect and ruled the manner of death a homicide. Various tests were completed in May 2025 to determine the cause of death.
It is alleged that the mother fell asleep while cradling the victim and upon waking up, discovered the victim was purple, unresponsive, and stiff. The authorities believe that the infant ingested cocaine and methamphetamine along with other foreign objects, including eggshells and feathers, which ultimately led to their death.
Natalia Munoz-Paulino has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She is currently being held without bond.
