Welcome to Arrest Stories. A fifty-eight-year-old St. Louis man has been charged with first-degree murder and multiple felonies following a deadly shooting at a Starbucks drive-thru that police say was part of a three-day crime spree. Here's what may have happened.
Keith Lamon Brown now faces serious charges including first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, four counts of armed criminal action, and three counts of first-degree robbery. He is being held without bond following his arrest by a SWAT team at his residence.
According to police reports, the violent crime spree began on February sixth when Brown robbed a victim at gunpoint in a drive-thru on North Grand Boulevard. During this robbery, Brown discharged his firearm. Two days later on February eighth, Brown robbed a cashier at a store on South Grand Boulevard, again discharging his weapon during the incident.
The crime spree escalated on Tuesday morning around ten a.m. when Brown arrived at the Starbucks located in the twenty-three hundred block of South Grand Boulevard in the Tower Grove East neighborhood. Police say Brown pointed a gun at a female victim and demanded she raise her hands before he shot and killed her. After the fatal shooting, Brown stole the victim's bank cards and driver's license.
The following morning on Wednesday, a SWAT team executed a search warrant at Brown's home. When officers arrived to make the arrest, Brown was armed at the time but was successfully taken into custody.
The charges against Brown paint a picture of an escalating pattern of armed robberies that culminated in murder. The first-degree murder charge indicates prosecutors believe the killing was premeditated, while the multiple counts of armed criminal action correspond to his use of firearms during each of the alleged crimes.
Brown's case highlights the serious nature of armed robbery charges in Missouri, where the use of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony carries enhanced penalties.
