On February fourteenth, twenty twenty-six, the United States Secret Service requested assistance from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office to locate Shaun Brian Jones near Riverbend Park. The Secret Service was seeking Jones for allegedly making threats against President Trump and requested deputies check on his welfare.
A Catawba County deputy located Jones within minutes of receiving the notification around one thirty in the afternoon. During the encounter near Riverbend Park, Jones allegedly struck the deputy's patrol vehicle with his van and fled the scene. Jones traveled north on Highway Sixteen into Alexander County as the deputy lost visual contact and terminated the pursuit.
The deputy immediately alerted Alexander County authorities about the fleeing suspect. Alexander County deputies caught sight of Jones on the highway and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Jones allegedly continued driving into Taylorsville without stopping for law enforcement.
Jones was eventually apprehended by Alexander County authorities and faces charges including assault on a government official and resisting arrest. His bond was set at one hundred twenty thousand dollars.
The Secret Service confirmed they take any information or activity that could be perceived as a potential threat to their protectees extremely seriously. An official stated they investigate and act on such matters swiftly and in close coordination with law enforcement partners.
The incident involved coordination between multiple agencies including the Secret Service, Catawba County Sheriff's Office, and Alexander County authorities. Jones allegedly struck a law enforcement vehicle during his attempt to evade capture before the multi-county pursuit ended with his arrest in Taylorsville.
