Welcome to Arrest Stories. A seventy-seven-year-old Delaware man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his sixty-four-year-old wife following a domestic dispute call in December. Here's what may have happened.
On December twenty-eighth, officers responded to a reported domestic dispute after eleven p.m. at a home in the Oak Hill community of Wilmington, Delaware. William Stevenson had called nine-one-one from the residence. When authorities arrived at the New Castle County home, they discovered Linda Stevenson unresponsive on the living room floor.
Officers immediately attempted lifesaving measures on the sixty-four-year-old woman, but Linda Stevenson was later pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Following what authorities described as an extensive weeks-long investigation, a grand jury returned an indictment against William Stevenson on February second. The indictment alleges that Stevenson did intentionally cause the death of his wife, charging him with first-degree murder.
Officers arrested William Stevenson at his home without incident on February second. He was arraigned and is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on five hundred thousand dollars bond.
William Stevenson was previously married to current First Lady Jill Biden from nineteen seventy until their divorce in nineteen seventy-five. Jill Biden met then-Senator Joe Biden in March nineteen seventy-five.
Family members remembered Linda Stevenson in a statement, saying she will be remembered as tenacious, kind-hearted, and fiercely loyal. They added that her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends will never be forgotten, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her.
The case remains under investigation as it moves through the court system.
