On Friday afternoon, another teenager saw a menacing video posted on social media by Enzo Vargas-Giraldo, a fifteen-year-old from Collier County, showing him holding a homemade explosive device and stating his intention to use it during trick-or-treating. The concerned teenager quickly reported the suspicious behavior to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
As deputies identified Vargas-Giraldo, they began to investigate the matter further. At approximately four p.m. on the same Friday evening, Vargas-Giraldo was arrested at his home on Palmetto Woods Drive in Collier County, Florida.
Upon searching the home, the CCSO's bomb squad discovered materials for making an explosive device in the garage. The authorities later revealed that Vargas-Giraldo had posted a video on social media of himself holding the homemade explosive, stating his intention to use it during trick-or-treating.
The swift action by the Collier County Sheriff's Office was praised by officials, who commended the teenager who reported the suspicious behavior for doing the right thing. "Collier County Public Schools commends both the teenager who did the right thing by reporting suspicious behavior and the swift action by the Collier County Sheriff's Office," said officials.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office also emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious behavior, stating, "Anyone who spreads fear in our community will face the consequences." The swift arrest of Vargas-Giraldo prevented what could have been a disastrous Halloween night.
