On April sixth, Dale James Drotar was allegedly speeding southbound at nearly triple the speed limit when tragedy struck at the intersection of Military Trail and Cedar Point Boulevard. According to official reports, Drotar was traveling at an estimated one hundred thirty-five miles per hour in a forty-five mile per hour zone when he slammed into a Camry attempting a left turn.
The devastating impact completely destroyed the victim's vehicle. Natalie Pierre was ejected from her car along with her seat and door as the Camry was literally torn apart by the collision. First responders described a horrific scene.
"As soon as I looked around, it was pure carnage," one official stated at the crash site.
When emergency personnel reached Drotar, they found him conscious but injured. "I asked him if he was okay, and he said he wasn't. He was in a lot of pain," an official reported.
Inside Drotar's vehicle, investigators discovered a bottle of Jack Daniel's liqueur. Subsequent toxicology testing painted a damning picture of the moments leading to the fatal crash. Blood tests revealed Drotar's blood alcohol concentration measured zero point one two six grams per one hundred milliliters shortly after the collision, and zero point zero eight five in a later draw. Additional controlled substances detected included Hydromorphone and Morphine.
For other victims at the scene, responders could only provide comfort. "All I could do was offer a little condolence, uncap her water, and give her something to drink to help her calm down," one official described while assisting survivors.
Six months after the deadly collision, on October twenty-second, Drotar was booked into Palm Beach County Jail facing serious charges including vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and four counts each of reckless driving and DUI causing injury and property damage.
