Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty-five-year-old Charlottesville man was arrested and held without bail after allegedly threatening to blow up a restaurant over an incorrect food order. Here's what may have happened.
On December thirty-first, staff at the Bojangles location on Abbey Road in Pantops reported to police that they had received threatening phone calls. According to investigators, Anthony M. Scott had become angered over receiving an incorrect food order from the restaurant. Police say Scott then made threats to blow up the Bojangles establishment.
Following the reported threats, detectives launched an investigation to identify the suspect behind the threatening calls. Through their investigative work, authorities were able to identify Scott as the person responsible for making the threats against the restaurant and its staff.
On January twentieth, officers from the Albemarle County Police Department and the Charlottesville Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in connection with the case. During the search operation, detectives took Anthony M. Scott into custody.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators recovered a firearm and ammunition at the residence. An ACPD K-9 unit trained for explosives detection was utilized during the search warrant operation, but no explosive devices or materials were located at the property.
Police officials emphasized the serious nature of such threats. "We take all threats of violence seriously, regardless of what may have prompted them," authorities stated. Officials further noted that "Threats like these are thoroughly investigated and, as this case shows, can result in serious criminal charges."
Scott, who is identified as the owner of A.M. Scott Distillery, was held without bail following his arrest. The distillery filed for Chapter eleven bankruptcy in December. In a separate legal matter, on January ninth, Scott pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of passing bad checks. As part of his plea agreement, felony counts of passing bad checks and theft were dismissed. Scott received a sentence of one year of probation and must pay six thousand seven hundred sixteen dollars in restitution.
