Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-two-year-old man stands accused of shooting a prominent Metro Detroit businessman in his own driveway after allegedly hiding between parked cars for forty-five minutes, with investigators saying bird droppings on a getaway vehicle helped crack the case. Here's what may have happened.
According to official reports, Jasan Martin borrowed a black two thousand twenty-four Ford Escape from a relative, affixed stolen license plates to the vehicle, and drove to Macomb Township with deadly intentions. Police say Martin climbed a wall onto Eddie Jawad's property and concealed himself between two parked vehicles in the businessman's driveway.
Surveillance footage reveals the calculated nature of this alleged attack. Officials state, "Video surveillance has our suspect arriving on Wellington Valley Drive near the victim's home in a black Ford, and he climbed a wall to get onto Jawad's property." The suspect allegedly waited in hiding for approximately forty-five minutes before striking.
At ten eighteen in the morning, tragedy unfolded. "The victim exits his garage in his SUV, and the suspect comes out from between a couple of cars and fires shots," investigators reported. Martin allegedly fired seven rounds at Jawad's vehicle as the businessman attempted to leave his home. Jawad was grazed in the leg and struck by flying glass before Martin fled the scene.
The breakthrough came through meticulous detective work and distinctive vehicle markings. Traffic camera footage captured the Ford Escape with what investigators described as "specific and consistent markings" including brake dust on the wheel well, smudges, and notably, bird droppings. These unique identifiers led police to trace the borrowed vehicle back to Martin's relative.
Martin was subsequently tracked to a house on Rivard in Warren, where he was arrested Sunday evening. He faces three counts of felony firearm with bond set at one million dollars cash or surety.
Prosecutors called the allegations "shocking and appalling," stating, "The idea that someone would attempt to kill a man in his own driveway, in broad daylight, is beyond comprehension."
The motive remains unknown as investigators continue their probe.
