62-YEAR-OLDS ARREST BEGAN WITH ONE AUTOMATED ALERT

Welcome to Arrest Stories. A sixty-two-year-old man was arrested in Red River County, Texas after being found with a stolen motorcycle and controlled substances following an automated license plate alert. Here's what may have happened.

On February thirteenth, twenty twenty-six, law enforcement in Red River County received an alert from the Flock Safety automated license plate recognition system indicating a stolen motorcycle had entered the county. The stolen motorcycle was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway Eighty-Two near Detroit.

Three deputies were patrolling in close proximity to the reported location at the time of notification. The deputies coordinated their efforts and positioned themselves along major roadways outside Detroit city limits to intercept the motorcycle. When the vehicle was not observed along primary travel routes, deputies determined it was likely still within city limits.

Deputies then initiated a systematic search of Detroit city. Law enforcement located the stolen motorcycle within Detroit and found Gary Wayne Buford in possession of the stolen bike. During the arrest process, deputies discovered that Buford had possession of more than one but less than four grams of a controlled substance.

Buford was subsequently arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One One-B greater than or equal to one gram but less than four grams.

A spokesperson for the Red River County Sheriff's Office stated, "The recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the apprehension of the suspect were made possible through the swift coordination of responding deputies. The Sheriff's Office remains committed to utilizing technology and proactive patrol strategies to protect the citizens of Red River County."

The case demonstrates how automated license plate recognition technology can assist law enforcement in recovering stolen property and apprehending suspects. The Flock Safety system provided the initial alert that led deputies to focus their search efforts in the Detroit area.
